During my college career, my best friend was an advocate for women's reproductive health. She constantly volunteered at the Feminist Women's Health Center in Atlanta, joined Pro-Choice rallies, and petitioned her legislators. I admired her determination, and yet did nothing myself. Until recently, I did not internalize how crucial the role she plays in reproductive health was. Today I had an abortion. Today I had to drive three hours out of my home state to obtain an abortion because the laws in my state are so restrictive that my choices were limited. Today I understood why Sarah does what she does. And today? I signed my first petition.
