When I was in college, abortion was illegal. When my roomate became pregnant, and I was able to find someone who would perform an abortion. I remember taking her to some anonymous place like a diner, delivering her to some stranger, watching her leave with him, and then meeting her there several hours later. I was terrified for her. What a nightmare!
From that time on, I became the college connection for women who wanted to discontinue their pregnancies. I would accompany them, reassure them, and generally support them in any way I could. No one should ever have to have those kinds of experiences, again.
