Today, as the Senate took the historic step of passing the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement:
“Our country took an important step in passing ENDA in the Senate today, and we congratulate all those who have worked so hard to bring us to this point. At the heart of ENDA is a promise our nation makes to everyone, regardless of who they are or who they love: they deserve to be treated fairly in all aspects of their lives. Today, a bipartisan majority of the Senate took a stand to uphold that promise.
“This same promise is at the center of our long battle to protect and strengthen a woman’s right to control her own future. Just as ENDA ensures that every person gets a fair shot at all of life’s opportunities, the fight for reproductive freedom is about ensuring every woman is able to reach her full potential. We stand with the LGBT community in this important fight for equal protection under the law.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
