NARAL Pro-Choice America on Susan B. Anthony List’s Case to Sanction Lying in Political Campaigning

June16, 2014

The Supreme Court today ruled that anti-choice group Susan B. Anthony List can challenge an Ohio law barring knowingly misleading statements in political campaigns under their First Amendment rights. NARAL Pro-Choice America released a statement from president Ilyse Hogue:

“Groups who can’t win based off of the facts or the merit of their argument often resort to lying and deceiving the public. This now appears to be the primary strategy of the SBA List. The public, and the press, is now put on notice to not take anything that comes out of the SBA List organization as truthful or fact based.”

The SBA List is planning to spend between $8 and $10 million this year to target lawmakers across the country.

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”

Everyone should be able to decide if, when, how, and with whom they start or grow a family.
