“This is yet another manipulative attempt by extremists who are abusing their power to relentlessly chip away at our legally established right to abortion, with the ultimate goal of outright banning abortion. Poll after poll shows that seven in ten Americans support access to legal abortion, yet extreme anti-choice Republicans are forcing survivors of human trafficking to be pawns in their reprehensible political games.
The series of events surrounding this bill serves an alarming display of what the Republican leadership intends for women in America: restrict abortion care, single out and deny confirmation of the first African American female U.S. Attorney General and stall compassionate solutions for survivors of trafficking.
Considering how the Republican party is losing support from women, you’d think its leaders would have learned their lesson; but these deplorable antics have only proven otherwise. Playing politics with the lives of women and girls desperately in need of access to reproductive health care is unbecoming of the U.S. Senate and a hideous abuse of power. To do right by women and victims of human trafficking, the Senate must pass a clean bill and do so immediately.”
