NARAL Pro-Choice America to Score Vote on Murray Amendment to SGR Bill

“We applaud Sen. Murray for introducing an amendment to strip the Hyde language from the SGR bill. Without the Murray amendment, this bill advances a bad policy that harms women and families.

Americans trust women and families, regardless of their income, to make personal decisions about their own reproductive health care, including abortion. When we single out those of lesser means in our society from receiving the full range of care, we leave a stain on the idea of personal freedom upon which our country was founded.

NARAL will be watching the vote on Sen. Murray’s amendment closely and scoring it.

The fact is this provision is yet another in a long series of premeditated, coordinated and sustained attacks on women’s health care and advance the far-right wing goal of banning abortion altogether. Without the Murray amendment, this bill will only serve to help that cause.”
