Statement by Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, on today’s Senate vote:

“The vote on Lindsay Graham’s abortion ban has nothing to do with women’s health and everything to do with pandering to a politically extreme base in a presidential cycle. Senator McConnell’s Hail Mary pass to try to avoid another government shutdown at the expense of women in often tragic situations is reprehensible and demonstrates how the Republican leadership has lost the ability to get the party to focus on what voters want and need them to do. If they think the voters will forget this come next year, they have another thing coming.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”

Everyone should be able to decide if, when, how, and with whom they start or grow a family.
