Senate GOP announce hearing on unconstitutional abortion ban, continue obstruction on filling Supreme Court vacancy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 8, 2016

Amid their continuing refusal to even consider filling the Supreme Court vacancy, last night the anti-choice Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee announced they will instead hold a hearing to consider an unconstitutional abortion ban. The hearing, scheduled for March 15, will consider a 20-week abortion ban and other plans to curtail Americans’ constitutional right to access abortion.

“With this announcement, Republicans have made their priorities abundantly clear—rob women of our basic rights while grinding our legal system to a halt so we have no recourse towards justice,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Holding this hearing proves that the GOP’s true focus remains on shutting down women’s constitutional rights. With seven in 10 Americans supporting legal access to abortion and Roe v. Wade hanging in the balance, Senate Republicans are choosing to play politics with women’s health instead of standing up for our reproductive freedom.”
