Angie Craig, Pramila Jayapal, Lucy Flores Endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC today announced its endorsements of Angie Craig (MN-02), former Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores (NV-04), and Washington State Senator Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) in their bids for Congress. The candidates who received these endorsements represent a diverse cross-section of our country—including two women of color and one candidate who is openly gay—proving that reproductive freedom can be a winning campaign issue in communities across America.
“Angie Craig, Pramila Jayapal, and Lucy Flores are steadfast, outspoken advocates for reproductive freedom and NARAL and our one-million member activists are proud to stand with them in their campaigns for Congress,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “These women embody the leadership that American women and families need to ensure our reproductive rights are protected and that access to quality health care is expanded. They are ready to take on the anti-choice majority now in control of Congress in order to defend our constitutional right to choose. With seven in ten Americans supporting safe and legal abortion, we know that Angie Craig, Pramila Jayapal, and Lucy Flores are the fighters we need in Congress.”
“Pramila Jayapal is a true champion for Washington women,” said Rachel Berkson, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. “As a state senator, she led the effort to provide equal access to long-acting contraception for low-income women, was front and center in efforts to raise the minimum wage, and sponsored and championed legislation to ensure reasonable accommodations for pregnant workers. She has fought diligently against a proposed “sex-selective abortion” ban that would reinforce racial stereotypes about Asian American families and would have been a wedge in the door for more draconian abortion bans. As Republicans in Congress hold witch-hunt hearings into healthcare providers and push legislation to roll back women’s access to basic health care, we need not just allies but champions, and Pramila will be our champion in Congress.”
“Angie Craig has worked her whole life to advance equality for all people,” said Andrea Ledger, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota. “When it comes to women’s health care, she believes that the right to an abortion should be between a woman and her doctor, not subject to government interference. After more than a decade of anti-choice, anti-woman representation in Congress, families in Minnesota’s second congressional district deserve a representative who shares their values.”
