Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue submitted testimony to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) Platform Drafting Committee to reaffirm NARAL’s support for all pillars of reproductive freedom. NARAL not only encourages the DNC to continue their support of women’s basic and fundamental rights to reproductive freedom, but enhance these rights by including the repeal of the Hyde and Helms amendments and support of access to medication abortion.
With Donald Trump at the top of the Republican ticket and the GOP’s continuing attack on women’s reproductive rights, the stakes couldn’t be higher. That’s why NARAL Pro-Choice America endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. Seven in 10 Americans support access to safe, legal abortion—meaning the DNC has a responsibility to introduce a platform that represents the needs and wants of their constituents and make women’s reproductive freedom a priority.
“The vast majority of Americans support reproductive freedom—and seven in 10 Americans agree that this includes access to safe, legal abortion. This is true across generations, ethnicities, and geography. This is true in red states, and the number often goes up in purple states and blue states. This is even true among those who do not believe they would choose abortion themselves, but do not want politicians making that decision for others,” said Ilyse Hogue in NARAL’s platform testimony.
