NARAL’s statement on Donald Trump’s speech to the Republican National Convention

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 19, 2016

Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, released the following statement after the GOP Presidential Nominee Donald Trump addressed the Republican National Convention:

“The last four days bore far more resemblance to the Salem Witch Trials of the seventeenth century than to what we expect from civil displays of political discourse that used to be conventions. What’s imminently clear is that we’ve got a lot of work to do to combat the mob mentality cultivated by Donald Trump through hate, sexism, and bigotry if the White House—and our country—to remain true to the highest ideals of the American promise.

“Donald Trump didn’t talk tonight about his promises to gut reproductive rights, because he knows that the majority of Americans support safe and legal access to abortion. But we didn’t need to hear from Donald Trump tonight to know that this is a man who spells out disaster for women and our reproductive freedom. From his statement that women should be punished for having an abortion, to his insistence on nominating Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade, and his recent selection of anti-choice extremist Mike Pence as a running mate, it’s clear Donald Trump is a woman’s worst enemy.”
