NARAL endorses three pro-choice allies for Congress in Iowa
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 28, 2016
Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC announced its endorsement of former Lt. Governor Patty Judge in her bid for U.S. Senate and City Councilwoman Monica Vernon (IA-01) and Jim Mowrer (IA-03) in their campaigns for Congress. NARAL has chosen to endorse these steadfast allies because of the leadership and dedication they have shown to protecting women’s reproductive freedom.
“NARAL is proud to stand with strong allies like Patty Judge, Monica Vernon, and Jim Mowrer as they campaign for Congress,” said Joel Foster, NARAL Pro-Choice America National Political Director. “It’s never been more clear that Iowa’s women and families need strong leaders fighting to protect reproductive freedom in Washington. Extremist politicians obsessed with outlawing abortion will take any opportunity to roll back the progress made for women’s reproductive freedom—but we must not let them. The only way to stop the relentless attacks on women’s access to reproductive health care, including abortion, is by electing leaders that are dedicated to protecting women and families— leaders like Judge, Vernon, and Mowrer.”
Judge, Vernon, and Mowrer are running against Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Rep. Rod Blum (IA-01), and Rep. David Young (IA-03) respectively. Each of their opponents are anti-choice politicians and have received a zero percent rating in NARAL’s annual rating of Members of Congress. Each has repeatedly voted to defund Planned Parenthood and ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. NARAL previously targeted Sen. Grassley in an ad campaign pushing him to do the job he was elected to do by filling the vacancy on the Supreme Court and has criticized his shared commitment with anti-choice misogynist Donald Trump to undermining reproductive freedom.
