FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 8, 2016
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued the following statement following Michael Bennet’s victory in his U.S. Senate campaign in Colorado:
“During his time in the U.S. Senate, Michael Bennet has consistently stood up for women and families by supporting policies that protect and expand our reproductive freedom. He has fought back against partisan attempts to defund Planned Parenthood, worked to make sure that employers can’t deny employees insurance coverage for birth control, and pushed to expand insurance coverage of contraception without a copay. Michael truly understands that reproductive health issues are economic issues and that Coloradans are better off when they have access to contraception, abortion, paid leave, and maternity care. He’s the kind of leader Coloradans deserve, and we are proud to congratulate him on his victory.”
Sen. Michael Bennet is a leading voice for Colorado women and families and has a perfect pro-choice voting record in NARAL’s annual rating of members of Congress. He strongly opposed partisan efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, voted for a law that ensures employers can’t discriminate against the kind of health insurance women receive, and fought against an effort to ban abortion nationwide at 20 weeks.
