Following Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s victory in Connecticut’s U.S. Senate race, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued the following statement:
“We are thrilled that Sen. Richard Blumenthal will serve another term as our pro-choice champion in the U.S. Senate. Throughout his work in the Senate, Sen. Blumenthal has been a committed champion for women and families and has always fought for our reproductive freedom. With anti-choice Republicans continually trying to restrict our access to abortion, it’s never been more important for us to elect leaders like Sen. Blumenthal. Congratulations to Sen. Blumenthal, a true champion for women and families!”
Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s re-election is a reflection of the trust Connecticut women and families have placed in his leadership. His long record of standing up for women and families, which has garnered him a perfect pro-choice voting record, includes opposing partisan efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, leading opposition to a nationwide 20-week abortion ban, and fighting to not only protect but expand women’s access to reproductive health care, including safe, legal abortion. He is also the Senate author of the Women’s Health Protection Act, a landmark bill that would repeal harmful state restrictions on women’s access to abortion.
To see how NARAL Pro-Choice America has fought for reproductive freedom over the last year, watch here.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
