FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 8, 2016
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued the following statement congratulating Rep. Tammy Duckworth on her successful campaign for the U.S. Senate:
“Tammy Duckworth is a tireless advocate for Americans’ reproductive freedom. We are thrilled to have her strong pro-choice values in the U.S. Senate. We know we can count on her to expand access to birth control, oppose harmful 20-week abortion bans, and defend Planned Parenthood as she has in the House of Representatives. We’re counting on her to keep up her efforts to lift harmful state restrictions on abortion access as well. She understands that reproductive healthcare, including abortion access, is critical to a woman’s ability to succeed, and that’s why we’re so proud to have her in the U.S. Senate.”
As a member of Congress, Rep. Tammy Duckworth received a 100% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America in its latest annual Congressional Record on Choice. Her record includes strong support for Planned Parenthood amid a coordinated and misleading smear campaign, opposition to a 20-week abortion ban, and support for the Women’s Health Protection Act, landmark legislation to lift harmful state restrictions on abortion access. She has also authored the House version of the Affordability is Access Act, a piece of NARAL-backed legislation that builds on the Affordable Care Act’s contraception coverage requirement by guaranteeing that any FDA-approved birth control pills made available over-the-counter will be covered by insurance.
To see how NARAL Pro-Choice America has fought for reproductive freedom over the last year, watch here.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
