NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 45th president of the United States:
“While today marks the first day of Donald Trump’s presidency, it also marks day one of unprecedented resistance from women and families across the country who reject the misogyny, bigotry, and racism that he and his administration bring to the White House. Over the course of his campaign and in the time since his election, we have learned that misogyny and disrespect toward women are central to who Donald Trump is. As he takes office today, we pledge to stand strong for the values that the majority of Americans hold dear, even if our new president does not. We will fight for the 7 in 10 Americans who want to keep abortion legal and accessible and who believe women, and women alone, should have the final say over our bodies and health care.
“Over the next four years, NARAL and our one million member activists will hold Donald Trump and his cronies accountable when they threaten Americans’ reproductive freedom. We will stand up to his efforts to ban abortion and limit access to basic health care and ensure that we never allow his out-of-touch agenda to become normalized.
“The resistance begins today.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
