NARAL Statement on Today’s Supreme Court Confirmation Hearing

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement in response to today’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing:

“If the hearings today were designed to calm the nerves of an increasingly anxious American public, they failed. Judge Gorsuch ducked and deflected, refusing to give straight answers on critical questions of law from Roe v. Wade to marriage equality to workers’ rights to judiciary independence. Non-answers in the past brought us the activist Roberts court. Non-answers today affirm the worst fears that Neil Gorsuch is the justice Donald Trump and Steve Bannon promised their followers.

“These are not normal times and these confirmation hearings are not occurring in a vacuum. Given the bombshell revelation by Director James Comey that the FBI is actively investigating ties between the Trump campaign and Russia—and Russia’s intervention in the 2016 election—the Senate must immediately pause any consideration of Judge Gorsuch’s nomination until the truth can come out.”
