NARAL Statement on Sen. Tester’s Opposition to Neil Gorsuch

Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, released the following statement after Senator Jon Tester announced that he will vote against Judge Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation:

“Senator Tester is the latest senator to commit to stand with millions of Americans who do not want to see Donald Trump’s nominee, Judge Gorsuch, confirmed to the highest court in the land. Senator Tester has a long history of fighting for women, for families, and for workers, and he has done so again in this case. NARAL members in Montana and around this country appreciate Senator Tester’s vigilance. He’s exactly the kind of leader that will see us through these troubled times.

“Americans are increasingly concerned by the news of intelligence agencies investigating the ties between the Trump Administration and the Russian government. They don’t want this vote to go forward until we get to the bottom of it. Short of delay, we call upon all of the undeclared Democratic senators to commit to voting against this nominee, on both cloture and final confirmation, requiring him to meet the 60 vote threshold required to confirm a Supreme Court justice. We call upon Republican senators to not change the rules for Donald Trump. If Judge Gorsuch can’t earn 60 votes, they shouldn’t change the rules — they should change the nominee.”
