A leaked document reveals that the Trump administration plans to devastate the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) birth control coverage benefit by allowing any employer to request an exemption from providing birth control coverage in its employees’ insurance packages, for any reason. In response, NARAL Pro-Choice America National Communications Director Kaylie Hanson Long released the following statement:
“The birth-control coverage benefit in our nation’s healthcare law was the single greatest advancement in reproductive healthcare in a generation, giving millions of women more control over our own futures. This document indicates that the Trump administration plans to directly attack the benefit, threatening access to affordable birth control for the 55 million women who gained coverage for contraception without out-of-pocket costs under the ACA. President Trump’s attempts to punish and burden women by taking way access to basic reproductive healthcare aren’t what women and families deserve, and we at NARAL will hold this administration accountable for their dangerous actions.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
