NARAL on the Latest Republican Attempt to Dismantle Nation’s Healthcare System
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 25, 2017
Today, Senate Republicans moved to advance their reckless efforts to dismantle our nation’s healthcare system. NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued the following statement in response:
“Republicans like Sens. Dean Heller and Rob Portman should be ashamed of themselves for ignoring the floods of people calling, protesting, and fighting like hell to keep their healthcare coverage. The senators who voted to advance this bill yet again demonstrated that they will cast the health and well-being of women and families to the side in order to score points with the fringe elements of their base.
“The vast majority of Americans want affordable healthcare. We support Planned Parenthood and understand that basic reproductive services are required to live healthy lives. We know the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, and we won’t stop fighting to preserve and expand them. The brutal ideology of the GOP—on full display with this vote—is deeply out of touch with Americans and should never be substituted for solid policy that promotes good healthcare. So long as the anti-choice GOP continues to target universally popular provisions like women’s health clinics, access to affordable to birth control, and maternity care, NARAL will keep mobilizing and organizing our members against them.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
