Like many of you, I was appalled by the events in Charlottesville over the weekend. To think that Nazis could openly overtake an American city in 2017 and engage in destruction and violence that ended up killing one person and injuring so many others–well, unfortunately, as shocking as that may be to some, it wasn’t a surprise for so many in our country.
But this didn’t start in Charlottesville and it will not end there unless all of us stand up in this historic moment to say NO. NO to the endemic racism, white supremacy, anti-semitism, homophobia, and misogyny that drives these activities.
Which is why at NARAL Pro-Choice America, we’re sponsoring vigils all over country for our members to stand up and be counted and demand a better future for our country.
Charlottesville isn’t a wake-up call—it is a call to action. Enter your zip code to find an event near you, as we mobilize from coast-to-coast to shut down this hate.
Our fight for reproductive freedom and justice is part of, not separate from, our fight to eradicate the hate surfacing in our country right now.
The men behind this white supremacist movement and the women who empower it are driven by a “might is right” mentality that is all too familiar to those of us who have been on the front lines of fighting for justice and empowerment for all people.
I, for one, cannot stay silent. My family and I attended a vigil outside of the White House last night. We hope you will join us in standing up to hate and standing for a better future for our country.
We are uniting with hundreds of thousands to fight against oppression. Take the first step today to fight back at an event near you.
Together, let’s each do our part to fight for justice and freedom, for all of us.
In solidarity,
Ilyse Hogue
President, NARAL Pro-Choice America
P.S. We’d love to lift up your activism. If you attend a rally or a vigil, tag @NARAL in your social media posts and photos and we’ll amplify from our platform.
