NARAL Members Were An Early Force in Herring’s Campaign, Flooded the Streets to Turn Out Pro-Choice Vote
As NARAL-endorsed candidate Mark Herring celebrated victory in his campaign to be the next attorney general of Virginia, NARAL leaders congratulated Herring on his victory:
“At a time when Trump and his GOP foot soldiers have relentlessly attacked abortion access at every level of government, NARAL members are thrilled to stand with Mark Herring as he continues to fight for our basic rights as Virginia’s attorney general,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Mark ran on his record as a proud defender of women’s constitutionally guaranteed right to access abortion care–and the voters responded. NARAL members worked hard to get out the vote for Mark’s race and look forward to continuing to work together to defend our reproductive freedom and access to essential healthcare.”
“Mark Herring’s win is a huge victory for women and families across the Commonwealth,” said Tarina Keene, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia. “When voters made their decisions this Election Day, John Adams had to answer for his dangerous record, including his work to restrict a woman’s access to birth control and his opposition to Medicaid expansion. By contrast, Herring has a proven track-record for standing up for women’s health and rights and ran a campaign on protecting reproductive freedom. His victory proves that voters are eager to elect pro-choice champions. We are excited to continue working with Attorney General Herring as we fight to expand healthcare options and protect our rights across the state.”
In key districts and throughout the Commonwealth, NARAL members knocked on thousands of doors to turn out pro-choice voters, including more than 14,000 this last weekend alone. NARAL members also made thousands of phone calls as they worked to turn out the seven in 10 voters who support keeping abortion legal and accessible.
