(Washington, D.C.) — NARAL Pro-Choice America issued the following statement in response to reports that the Trump Administration has prohibited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from using the words “fetus,” “science-based,” “evidence-based,” “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “ diversity,” “transgender,” in official budget documents.
“Donald Trump and Mike Pence are clearly using Margaret Atwood’s fiction as a playbook rather than reading for pleasure. Forbidding scientists and researchers from using medically accurate terminology in order to push an extreme, ideological agenda is more ‘dystopia’ than ‘United States of America.’ This latest move from the Trump administration amounts to yet another backdoor tactic to curtail Americans’ basic rights and freedoms, including the right to access abortion, and will put lives in real danger.” -Kaylie Hanson Long, National Communications Director, NARAL Pro-Choice America
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
