As GOP leadership continues to ignore bipartisan solutions for preventing a government shutdown, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and the anti-choice GOP are mere hours from overseeing a government shutdown. Instead of focusing all their energy toward keeping the government open, the utterly shameless GOP has been focused on passing a bill that feeds its obsession with banning abortion; putting Dreamers – our friends, neighbors, and loved ones – at risk of deportation; and turning a cold shoulder on the lifesaving CHIP program. Their priorities remain completely out of touch.
“It is completely reprehensible that a GOP that claims a “family values” mantle would deport and separate families instead of working with Democrats on solutions to support them. The DREAMers must be allowed to stay in this country; their home. As Republicans continue to drag their heels, leaving the safety, health, and wellbeing of millions of families hanging in the balance, all of America is watching. And if Republicans turn their backs on the very people that make this country great regardless of immigration status, we’ll remember it in the voting booth.”
