NARAL Pro-Choice America president Ilyse Hogue released the following statement in response to alarming reports that Alejandra Pablos, a nationally recognized reproductive and immigrant rights organizer with the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, was detained by ICE in retaliation for her peaceful protests against the Trump administration’s attacks on immigrant families:
“NARAL calls for the immediate release of Alejandra Pablos, a long time advocate for reproductive rights, immigrant rights, and human rights. It appears that Ms. Pablos, a legal resident, was detained in relation to peaceful protest activities, which are guaranteed by our Constitution. Our nation is one where ideas should flow freely, not one where those who express them are met with handcuffs and lock downs. This action is truly un-American and we stand with Alejandra and the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health as they explore legal remedies for this injustice.”
