NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Rosa DeLauro for re-election in Connecticut’s 3rd Congressional District.
“Rosa DeLauro has been a champion for abortion rights from the moment she started representing Connecticut, and every day since. We need her now more than ever,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Her fierce commitment to protecting and expanding reproductive rights is desperately needed in a Republican Congress known for its hostility toward affordable and accessible care for all. We are proud to endorse her for Congress, and our members will make sure she can continue fighting for Connecticut families.”
“I will never back down from the fight to protect women’s reproductive rights,” said DeLauro. “That’s why I have consistently championed access to affordable and quality healthcare for women. I believe that whether a woman has private or government funded health insurance, she, in concert with her family and doctor, should be able to make her own health decisions.
“Further, I have authored the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act, which passed the House of Representatives with broad bipartisan support. This bill ensures that decisions about the duration of hospital stay after a mastectomy procedure will be made by a woman and her doctor, rather than by an insurance company.
“I am proud to stand by the Affordable Care Act, and will work each and every day to strengthen it. The ACA has dramatically improved women’s access to medical care, and has ended the shameful practice by insurance companies of charging women more for health insurance. We have much work to do—and I am energized for the fights ahead as we work to protect and expand healthcare for all women.”
A member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, DeLauro has represented the people of Connecticut’s 3rd District since 1991, and has been a consistent champion of reproductive rights. She has led the fight for affordable, quality healthcare, and sponsored legislation that would close the wage gap between men and women and provide paid sick leave to employees.
