NARAL Pro-Choice America Endorses Hiral Tipirneni on Her Bid For Congress

NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Hiral Tipirneni in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District.

“After spending more than a decade as an emergency room physician, Dr. Tipirneni understands better than anyone the importance of protecting a woman’s right to essential healthcare and the ability to make her own medical decisions,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “We know she will fight for Arizona’s women and families every day, and we are excited to get her elected to Congress.”

“I am honored to earn NARAL’s support, and will fiercely protect women’s reproductive health rights. Politicians and employers have no role in a decision that should be between a woman, her partner, her doctor, and her faith,” stated Dr. Tipirneni. “In comparison, my opponent has supported legislation requiring women to seek permission from their employers if they want their insurance to cover birth control. This is exactly the wrong approach since research tells us that simple access to contraception and sex education are the best ways to avoid an unwanted pregnancy in the first place.”

Dr. Tipirneni is an emergency room physician, cancer research advocate, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Maricopa Health Foundation. As a doctor, Dr. Tipirneni understands the importance of evidence-based, safe reproductive healthcare, including access to abortion and contraception. Dr. Tipirneni is running against Debbie Lesko, who is endorsed by prominent anti-choice groups such as Susan B. Anthony List, Concerned Citizens for Life, and National Right to Life. Lesko has a consistent anti-choice record from her time in the Arizona Senate, including supporting unconstitutional abortion bans.
