In response to today’s news that Alejandra Pablos has been granted bond and will soon be released, NARAL Pro-Choice America Vice President Adrienne Kimmell issued the following statement:
“We can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Alejandra will be free today, and we stand in solidarity with her, the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, and all of the fearless advocates for reproductive and immigrant rights who risk backlash by extreme politicians and leaders in order to speak their truths. But our relief today is underscored by the increasing urgency of the assaults on our democratic values and constitutional rights perpetrated by those aligned with Donald Trump and his anti-immigrant and anti-choice agenda.”
While Pablos has been freed from Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, she is still facing deportation.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
