NARAL Pro-Choice America today congratulated Michelle Lujan Grisham for Governor and Xochitl Torres Small for Congress for winning their New Mexico primaries. NARAL was an early force in the race to help send a pro-choice champion to the Governor’s Mansion and Congress.
“Congresswoman Lujan Grisham and Xochitl Torres Small will be excellent advocates for women and families, and we’re thrilled to celebrate their victories tonight,” said Nicole Brener-Schmitz NARAL Pro-Choice America Political Director. “New Mexicans deserve the strongest representation at the highest levels to protect their reproductive rights. That’s why we’ll keep fighting for these candidates and help them secure victory in November.”
As a congresswoman, Michelle Lujan Grisham has been leading the fight against the repeated attacks on women’s health by the GOP. From co-sponsoring bills to protect access to birth control to speaking out against state legislature bills that would make it illegal for a woman to access abortion later in pregnancy, Lujan Grisham has been an outspoken advocate for reproductive freedom.
Torres Small started her career as a field representative for Senator Udall. She currently works as a lawyer in natural resource and water law. She has a track record of bringing stakeholders together to develop community-driven solutions to issues facing southern New Mexico and will be a fierce advocate for women and her community as a member of Congress.
