NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Sen. Martin Heinrich in his campaign for re-election to represent New Mexico in the U.S. Senate.
“Senator Heinrich is a champion for New Mexico women and families, and we are proud to endorse his re-election,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “For years, Senator Heinrich has been a trustworthy advocate in the fight to make reproductive freedom a reality for women and families across New Mexico and beyond. With nonstop attacks on our most basic rights by the GOP and the Trump administration, we need champions like Senator Heinrich who will fight back against attacks at every level. We are proud to support him and we know he will continue to be a steadfast ally when he wins in November.”
“I am honored to have the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice America,” said Heinrich. “Access to family planning is essential to women’s equality. I will always stand for a woman’s right to determine for herself what is best for her body – without interference from the government or her employer. I look forward to working with NARAL to stand against Republican attempts to chip away at these fundamental rights.”
Senator Heinrich has been a strong voice for reproductive freedom since he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012. He has co-sponsored pro-choice legislation, including the Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill that would improve abortion access for women no matter where they live, and has received a 100% pro-choice rating from NARAL since he was elected. Heinrich is a crucial advocate for women in New Mexico and will continue fighting for women’s equality and opportunity.
NARAL’s political program for the 2018 general election is the organization’s largest ever midterm political program to advance candidates fighting for “our values, our future, our vote.” NARAL is investing in diverse candidates up and down the ballot in 19 states, mobilizing members and voters through mail, phones, digital ads, door to door canvassing, TV ads, and rallies that hold anti-choice candidates accountable and lift up pro-choice champions.
