After Donald Trump signed an executive order refusing to reverse his administration’s zero tolerance policy for asylum seekers, allowing families to be detained at the border indefinitely, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued the following statement:
“Any executive order that continues to jail families seeking asylum is insufficient and unacceptable. While this administration claims to be ending its practice of separating families, the stark reality is that they currently have no plan to reunite the thousands of children already separated from their loving parents. This administration is doing the least amount possible in order to deflect responsibility and extinguish the outrage he has sparked with his depravity. It won’t work.
“Today’s executive order shows that the resistance is working. Trump is feeling the pressure of the resounding voices of the American people all over the country, and half measures won’t suffice. NARAL members will keep fighting with everything we have, and will only double down our demand that this evil end. No matter what actions Trump and the out-of-touch GOP take, these atrocities will be top of mind for NARAL members and voters across America in November and beyond.”
NARAL members across the country will be participating on June 30 in the #FamiliesBelongTogether nationwide rallies. Pledge to join in and take action here.
