NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Gina Ortiz Jones in Texas’s 23rd Congressional district.
“Gina Ortiz Jones has dedicated her life to serving her country, and NARAL is thrilled to endorse her campaign in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “With the Trump Administration’s nonstop attacks on the fundamental rights of women, we need leaders like Gina who will work as strong and tireless champions in Congress.”
“Let’s be clear: whether or not women have access to safe, reproductive services is on the ballot this year,” said Ortiz Jones. “With the President, the Congress, and soon the Courts aligned in doing whatever they can to take that decision-making power away from women and their families, now more than ever we need someone in Congress who will stand with Texas women. I believe it is up to a woman to decide whether and when to have children; Will Hurd doesn’t. That’s one reason that with NARAL’s help, I’ll be in Congress next year, and he won’t.”
After finishing school, Gina Ortiz Jones enlisted in the air force as an intelligence officer and was deployed to Iraq. Years after returning from active duty, she served as the Senior Advisor for Trade Enforcement and later as a Director for Investment at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. After Trump’s entrance into office, Jones returned to Texas and began her election bid for Congress. She has vowed to be a champion for equal rights for women and ensure reproductive freedom for all women within her healthcare plans.
