MIAMI – In a press conference this morning, NARAL Pro-Choice America announced its endorsement of Gwen Graham in her campaign to be the next Governor of Florida. NARAL Political Director, Nicole Brener-Schmitz joined Graham on stage and praised her long history of public service and commitment to fighting to make access to reproductive health care a reality for women and families across Florida. NARAL recently announced the rollout of their largest political plan to date which includes Florida as a top state.

“This November, our rights are on the line. If Donald Trump is able to appoint a Supreme Court justice who reverses Roe v. Wade, governors will be our last line of defense in protecting a woman’s right to choose,” said Nicole Brener-Schmitz, NARAL Pro-Choice America political director. “In Florida, Gwen Graham is the only candidate with a legislative progressive record of supporting women’s reproductive and health care rights. In Congress, she fought to protect Planned Parenthood from Republican attack. Running for governor, she has offered progressive solutions to expand health care to every family. And as governor, she will always defend a woman’s right to choose.”

“NARAL Pro-Choice America is proud to join thousands of Florida women and our progressive allies in support of Democrat Gwen Graham, the best-qualified candidate to end 20 years of Tallahassee attacks against women’s reproductive rights and defend our health care from Donald Trump and his right-wing Supreme Court,” Brener-Schmitz said.

“I grew up in a changing world. I’ve spent my life fighting for my daughter and the next generation of women to grow up in a changed world — but I never imagine those changes would take us backward,” Gwen Graham said. “I am proud to have the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice America, and, as governor, I will work with them to defend a woman’s right to abortion and reproductive health care here in Florida.”

“Make no mistake, if Ron DeSantis or Adam Putnam become governor, abortion could be outlawed in our state within a year,” Graham said. “Women, our daughters and granddaughters, cannot afford for us to lose this election – and I will not let them down.”

Gwen Graham has a strong, progressive proven record of action when it comes to standing up for women’s rights. In Congress, Graham co-sponsored legislation to renew the Equal Rights Amendment, voted against defunding Planned Parenthood and voted against making it easier for states to defund Planned Parenthood.

NARAL’s political program for the 2018 general election is the organization’s largest ever midterm political program to advance candidates fighting for “our values, our future, our vote.” NARAL is investing in diverse candidates up and down the ballot in 19 states, mobilizing members and voters through mail, phones, digital ads, door to door canvassing, TV ads, and rallies that hold anti-choice candidates accountable and lift up pro-choice champions. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”

Everyone should be able to decide if, when, how, and with whom they start or grow a family.
