After the Senate voted to confirm Donald Trump’s latest anti-choice judicial nominee Andrew Oldham to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, NARAL Pro-Choice America Vice President Adrienne Kimmell issued the following statement:
“Women and families in Texas face incredible barriers to accessing reproductive healthcare, yet Andrew Oldham has spent his career chipping away at our already tenuous rights. Oldham’s track records proves time and time again that he will be a foot soldier for the anti-choice movement’s agenda, which includes overturning and gutting Roe v. Wade and criminalizing abortion. He now has a platform to execute his anti-choice worldview for decades to come. As Donald Trump and the anti-choice GOP continue to stack the courts against women and families, Oldham’s confirmation should concern every American that believes in the judiciary’s essential role in upholding our basic freedoms.”
Andrew Oldham defended a Texas regulation that defunded Planned Parenthood by prohibiting organizations that provide abortion care from receiving funding through the Texas Women’s Health Program (TWHP). He also defended Texas’ egregious Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers (TRAP) law, which was struck down as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
