NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Dana Nessel in her campaign for Attorney General of Michigan.
“Dana Nessel has been a steadfast champion for Michigan women and families and we are proud to endorse her,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Now more than ever, we need passionate allies like Dana Nessel who will fight back against the wrongful attacks on our basic rights and serve as an advocate for women and families in Michigan.”
“I am unwavering in my commitment to protect essential healthcare services for women and to stand firmly in opposition to efforts which curtail a woman’s constitutional right to choose,” said Dana Nessel.
While in office, Dana Nessel will fight against unconstitutional mandates that take Title X family planning funding away from organizations like Planned Parenthood. Nessel is committed to stopping the implementation of Trump’s global gag rule, as well as all other policies that seek to restrict access to safe, legal health care. Nessel is a managing partner at Nessel & Kessel Law Firm, and has nearly 25 years of legal experience. She is recognized as one of the premier litigators on behalf of LGBTQ rights issues in Michigan, including spearheading the precedent-setting case, DeBoer v. Snyder, which challenged the bans on adoption and marriage for same-sex couples in Michigan, a case that was was later consolidated with its affiliated U.S. Sixth Circuit cases into Obergefell v. Hodges in the United States Supreme Court which created marriage equality as a fundamental right across all 50 states. Nessel is the President and Founder of the Fair Michigan Foundation, an organization committed to fighting for equal rights and protections for women and those in the LGBTQ community.
