Challenger in Florida’s 16th Congressional District Earns Endorsement from Nation’s Leading Pro-Choice Advocacy Group

NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of David Shapiro in Florida’s 16th Congressional District.
“David Shapiro has been a fighter and an advocate for women and families throughout his career,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Floridians deserve representatives in Congress who will rise above the gridlock at the state level and be a voice for their rights in Washington. We know David Shapiro will be that leader and we are proud to endorse him.”
“I’m honored to have the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice America,” said Shapiro. “As an attorney for more than 30 years, I fought for Floridian families to get equal treatment and protection under the law. I’ll take that same fight to Washington, because no politician should interfere with a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions.”
David Shapiro is a lawyer who served as the Treasurer and Vice President of Children First. He is a local small business owner and served as a trustee member on the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce. Shapiro is an advocate for reproductive rights, and has vowed to protect a woman’s right to make decisions about her own healthcare. Shapiro is facing Republican incumbent Vern Buchanan, who has a consistent anti-choice record. He has received a 0% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America every year since he entered office in 2007.
