NARAL on GOP’s Blatant Disregard for Mainers’ Rejection of Brett Kavanaugh

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement in response to the GOP’s blatant disregard for thousands of Mainers peacefully participating in the democratic process and urging Senator Susan Collins to vote against Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s Supreme Court pick to overturn and gut Roe v. Wade:

“The GOP campaign to paint Senator Collins as a victim is an obvious ploy to distract from the fact that Senator Collins is still weighing a decision with a clear answer and one that will impact nearly every American for generations to come. Mainers like Mollie, Emily, Michelle, Erin and thousands more are participating in the democratic process, demanding Senator Collins vote against Kavanaugh. They are making their voices heard, reminding the senator that her constituents stand solidly against Kavanaugh because his ideology will put all Americans in peril for generations. Threats of violence and profanity are completely unacceptable, but focusing on the few who have engaged in this behavior buys into the GOP narrative and ignores the tens of thousands of Mainers and Americans that are participating in our democracy by telling their stories, contributing what little they can, and in any way possible desperately trying to tell Senator Collins that they don’t want a Supreme Court justice who has lied under oath and misled Americans. They are asking their senators to not relegate us to the fate of a Kavanaugh Court that would strip us of our fundamental freedoms, and our ability to exercise control over our bodies, our destinies, and our lives.
