Ad, which features a woman fearfully living in a post-Roe America, highlights the grave threat Kavanaugh poses to women’s rights and lives

Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America announced a new hard-hitting TV ad campaign targeting Senator Dean Heller and highlighting that Brett Kavanaugh will gut Roe v. Wade, criminalize abortion, and punish women. The five-figure ad buy features dramatic footage of a woman living in fear of criminal punishment if Roe is overturned. It also references Kavanaugh’s comments that Roe is not “settled law”, and asks Senator Dean Heller to oppose Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.

“If Dean Heller votes to confirm Brett Kavanaugh he will be voting to end Roe v. Wade, criminalize abortion, and punish women. There is no question after Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing last week that he fully lives up to Donald Trump’s litmus test to only appoint justices who will overturn Roe. This ad shows the grim reality that many women in this country already face, but will be made exponentially worse if Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed. Women in Nevada, and around the country, cannot afford a future in which the criminalization of abortion is compounded by Donald Trump, Brett Kavanaugh, and Dean Heller’s extreme anti-choice vision of America. Every voter in Nevada must understand what is at stake with this vote, because clearly Dean Heller does not.”
The ad comes right after the release of a NARAL and Planned Parenthood poll that finds that the majority of Nevada voters do not want to see Roe v. Wade overturned or the Affordable Care Act repealed. Fifty-six percent of Nevada voters are more likely to support a candidate for Congress who supports women’s rights, compared to only eleven percent who prefer to support candidates who oppose those rights. A strong majority of Nevadans support access to safe, legal abortion. Seventy-four percent of voters do not want to see Roe v. Wade overturned.Nevadans overwhelmingly indicated they do not want Senator Dean Heller to vote to confirm anti-choice nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who is on record saying the Supreme Court can “always overrule precedent” and questions Roe as “settled law.”
