NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Sen. Bill Nelson in his campaign for re-election to represent Florida in the Senate.
“Senator Nelson is a fighter for Florida women and families, and we are proud to endorse his re-election,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “For years, Senator Nelson has been an outspoken and steadfast ally who has made it a priority to ensure that reproductive freedom becomes a reality for Florida women and families. Florida is a state that has put up barriers left and right, trying to take away a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions. That’s exactly why we need champions like Bill Nelson who will fight back against attacks on our basic rights. Senator Nelson has been a true leader and we are thrilled to support him.”
“I will continue to fight to protect the rights of women to make their own health-care decisions and ensure Floridians have access to affordable, reliable health care,” said Nelson.
Nelson is a fifth-generation Floridian who has served this state and his country in the military, as a crewmember on the space shuttle, and in the U.S. Senate. He has been a strong voice not only on women’s issues but an advocate for all Floridians.
His election opponent, Rick Scott, has denied health care coverage to 800,000 needy Floridians. As governor, he signed legislation aimed at tacking on unnecessary restrictions to make access to healthcare for women and families burdensome.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
