For Immediate Release: October 19, 2018
NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer for Congress.
“We have been proud to call Steny Hoyer a friend and ally for decades, and we need him in Congress to keep fighting for reproductive freedom now more than ever,” said Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “With reproductive rights so viciously under attack, it’s crucial to have a strong, pro-choice advocate, like Steny, in leadership. We’re proud to endorse him.” ”
“I’m honored to receive NARAL’s endorsement, and I’m proud to stand with them to protect a women’s right to choose,” said Congressman Hoyer. “NARAL has consistently worked to oppose efforts by the Republican Congress to undermine women’s access to quality, affordable health care. A woman’s health care decisions ought to be between her and her doctor, and I’m grateful for the work of NARAL to support women across our state.”
House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer has been a leader within the Democratic Party in protecting women’s access to healthcare. He has been outspoken in condemning destructive Republican attempts to undermine a woman’s right to choose. He worked tirelessly to strengthen the Affordable Care Act and voted against legislation that would ban federal funding for health coverage that includes abortion. Hoyer has also played a leading role in recruiting candidates, raising money, and campaigning across the country so pro-choice Democrats can take back the majority.
Congressman Hoyer voted against a harmful, unconstitutional 20-week abortion ban and has fought Republican efforts to institute unnecessary regulations for care providers and worked to protect Title X funding. Since his election to Congress, he has received a 100% pro-choice rating from NARAL Pro Choice America.
NARAL’s political program for the 2018 general election is the organization’s largest ever midterm political program to advance candidates fighting for “our values, our future, our vote.” NARAL is investing in diverse candidates up and down the ballot in 19 states, mobilizing members and voters through mail, phones, digital ads, door to door canvassing, TV ads, and rallies that hold anti-choice candidates accountable and lift up pro-choice champions.
