NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia and NARAL Pro-Choice America released the following statement on Stacey Abrams:
“Stacey Abrams is truly a champion for the people of Georgia and democracy. Stacey fought tirelessly to ensure that every Georgian’s voice was heard and we are indebted to her for that service,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia State Director, Laura Simmons. “The obstacles voters faced were unjust and unfair but the Abrams campaign and partners across Georgia stood up to Brian Kemp and have ensured that all eyes are on the rampant voter suppression that has plagued Georgia for far too long. We thank her for her remarkable campaign and courage to always challenge the status quo.”
“Let’s be clear, Stacey Abrams is a trailblazing progressive hero who we are beyond grateful for. She ran a remarkable and inspirational campaign that will have impacts on Georgia and the nation for years to come,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Stacey Abrams put her blood, sweat, and tears into leading a people-powered movement that was the antidote to Brain Kemp’s extremism, creating a campaign that existed to fight for the right of every single Georgia voter’s voice to be heard. We could not be more proud to have supported her and we remain committed to fighting until every Georgian can live their lives with dignity and equality.”
NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia endorsed Stacey Abrams early on and was an early voice in turning out pro-choice voters across the state for Abrams. NARAL members worked tirelessly through Election Day to get out the vote and help voters who had their absentee ballots rejected.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
