After the Senate voted to confirm anti-choice judge Jonathan Kobes, NARAL Pro-Choice America Vice President Adrienne Kimmell issued the following statement:
“Jonathan Kobes is just the latest in a long line of radical, biased, and unqualified nominees that Mitch McConnell and the anti-choice GOP have rammed through the nomination process. These judges will rule against women and families for decades and further the Republican agenda of stacking the courts in Donald Trump’s image, and Kobes is no exception. It’s no surprise that anti-choice Republicans are using the little time that remains in this legislative session to push through as many nominees as possible, especially at this critical moment where reproductive freedom is under attack in our courts like never before. We urge the Senate to stop its partisan vendetta against our courts, which flies in the face of our judiciary’s sacred role in upholding justice and our essential rights.”
Jonathan Kobes has extensive ties to fake women’s health centers, also known as crisis pregnancy centers. A few years ago, Kobes served as a board member for Bethany Christian Services, a fake women’s health center in South Dakota. Moreover, Kobes represented several fake women’s health centers pro-bono in a case challenging a South Dakota biased counseling law.
