In light of Alabama State Representative John Rogers’ comments as the Alabama House passed an extreme ban on abortion, and his latest remarks that included unacceptable slurs towards the disability community, NARAL Vice President Adrienne Kimmell issued the following statement:
“The language that Representative Rogers has used is unacceptable, offensive, and has no place in public discourse, period.
“Rep. Rogers initially expressed that his original intent was to shed light on the harmful impact of Republican policies, but unfortunately he chose to use appalling rhetoric which NARAL does not condone.
“What we must not lose sight of is the truth that still holds: that Republicans in Alabama are still hoping to pass one of the most extreme and cruel abortion bans in the country—which has no protections for survivors of rape and incest—at a grave expense to women’s health, rights, and lives.”
