Candidate in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District Earns Endorsement from Nation’s Leading Pro-Choice Advocacy Group

NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Rita Hart in her campaign to represent Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District and retain a U.S. House of Representatives seat held by a Democrat for more than a decade.
“NARAL is proud to endorse Rita Hart, an experienced lawmaker who will fight tirelessly for reproductive freedom in Congress,” said Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “We need champions like Rita in Congress to work to stem the tide of attacks on our most fundamental freedoms from anti-choice politicians who believe they belong in women’s most personal decision-making. Rita has fought for women and families throughout her career and she is the leader that Iowans in the second Congressional district deserve.”
“As a rural Iowan, I have seen women’s health services become more and more difficult to access for women and families in rural Iowa,” said Rita Hart, candidate for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District. “That’s why, when I served in the state senate, I fought for access to health care because Iowans should never be barred from the services they need based on where they live. If I’m fortunate enough to be elected to Congress, my focus will be on standing up for Iowa women and families, and I’m proud to have the support of an organization that has led in this fight.”
Rita Hart is a longtime advocate for reproductive freedom running to fill the open seat left by Democratic Rep. Dave Loebsack, a pro-choice legislator who has held the seat for more than a decade and who is retiring. Hart previously served as an Iowa State Senator from the 49th District and was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Iowa in the 2018 gubernatorial election.
