South Carolina Challenger Earns Endorsement from Nation’s Leading Pro-Choice Advocacy Group to Unseat Anti-Choice Extremist Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham

NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of former South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison in his campaign to represent South Carolina in the United States Senate. Harrison has been an outspoken advocate for reproductive freedom, and is running to unseat anti-choice Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
“Jaime Harrison has been an outspoken champion of reproductive freedom, and NARAL is proud to endorse his candidacy at this critical time in our nation’s history,” said Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “As anti-choice extremists like Senator Graham continue to launch unprecedented attacks on our fundamental freedoms, South Carolinians deserve a leader who will truly fight for women and families — which means protecting their constitutional right to make personal decisions about pregnancy, free from political interference.”
“I’m honored to receive NARAL’s endorsement, and I look forward to working together to restore hope to millions of women and families across South Carolina,” said Harrison. “For far too long, Senator Lindsey Graham has put Washington politics before the needs of South Carolinians. When I’m elected to the U.S. Senate, I’ll champion issues impacting women’s health and will work on improving policies such as paid family leave. Families deserve leaders that will support them before, during and after a pregnancy.”
As chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party, Harrison committed to fight Republican attempts to overturn Roe v. Wade and to safeguard reproductive freedom. Earlier this year Harrison publicly criticized Graham for introducing legislation to ban abortion, referring to the move as a “political stunt” and calling on politicians to trust women. Graham is a vocal anti-choice extremist in the U.S. Senate who has co-sponsored anti-choice legislation every Congress since he was elected to the Senate and earned a 0% score from NARAL in the 2018 Congressional Record on Choice.
NARAL Pro-Choice America is increasingly investing in the Southeast and has recently expanded organizing and electoral efforts into South Carolina, led by Southeast Regional Director Laura Simmons.
