NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of U.S. Representative Ben Ray Luján in his campaign to represent New Mexico in the U.S. Senate. Luján, the U.S. House of Representatives Assistant Speaker, has represented New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District since 2009 and is seeking to succeed Democratic Senator Tom Udall.
“NARAL is proud to endorse Congressman Luján, a staunch advocate for reproductive freedom who for a decade has demonstrated his commitment to fighting for women and families in Congress,” said Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “This election is critical to securing a pro-choice majority in the Senate, and there is no better candidate for the job. With so much at stake, Congressman Luján is a champion for the people of New Mexico and will stand strong against anti-choice extremists.”
“I am proud to have the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice America — an organization that played a critical role in our work to elect a Democratic majority in the House and ensure we elevate pro-choice leaders to office,” said Congressman Luján. “I have always stood with women and families and will continue to fight back against attempts to weaken the right of women to make their own reproductive health decisions. Together, we will continue to oppose anti-choice judges and put forward bold legislation to uplift women and families.”
Congressman Luján has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2009 and was Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee from 2015 to 2019. As Assistant House Speaker, Luján is the highest-ranking Hispanic in Congress. He has consistently earned a 100% score from NARAL in the Congressional Record on Choice.
