NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Alyse Galvin in her bid to represent Alaska in the U.S. House of Representatives. Galvin, who seeks to fill Alaska’s At-Large Congressional seat, is running to unseat anti-choice Republican Rep. Don Young, who has worked for decades to roll back reproductive freedom and has consistently received a 0% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America.
“Alyse Galvin is a tireless advocate for reproductive freedom who knows that Alaskans, like the vast majority of Americans, don’t want politicians interfering in their personal decisions about pregnancy,” said Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “In a year marked by an unprecedented number of attacks on reproductive freedom, we need leaders like Galvin who are committed to protecting the right to access abortion. The women and families of Alaska don’t deserve to pay the price for Don Young’s wildly out-of-touch agenda to ban abortion. Alyse Galvin has proven through her years of community leadership that she is dedicated to improving the lives of all Alaskans, and NARAL is proud to stand with her.”
“I have dedicated my life to strengthening our communities and standing up for women and families, and I’m excited to fight for these values in Congress,” said Alyse Galvin. “In my home state of Alaska, where it’s often difficult for people to access reproductive healthcare, the last thing we need is politicians inserting themselves in personal decisions about pregnancy. I’m in this fight because I believe that all Alaskans should be able to make their own decisions, free from political interference. I’m proud to have the support of NARAL Pro-Choice America as I continue advocating for reproductive freedom for all Alaskans.”
Alyse Galvin is a mother of four, a community leader, and a former small business owner. She founded Great Alaska Schools in 2014, organizing thousands of parents, students, educators, and community leaders to protect public schools from massive budget cuts. Galvin also ran against Don Young in 2018, coming the closest to unseating the Republican lawmaker any candidate has come in nearly three decades. She is an Independent who has been endorsed by the Alaska Democratic Party.
