NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Dan Feehan in his bid to represent Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Feehan is a fifth generation Minnesotan who served as an active duty soldier in Iraq before moving home to teach middle school. Feehan later served as an acting Assistant Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon under President Barack Obama. Feehan is seeking to unseat anti-choice Republican incumbent Rep. Jim Hagedorn, who was among the group of anti-choice lawmakers who signed onto an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to consider overturning Roe v. Wade.
“We are proud to endorse Dan Feehan, who has proven that he will be the champion that women and families in Minnesota need,” said Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Feehan has dedicated his life to serving others, and he knows that Minnesotans, like the vast majority of Americans, believe women should be able to make their own decisions about pregnancy with the support of those they love and trust. With reproductive freedom is under attack across the country, we need strong, compassionate leaders like Dan Feehan on our side in Congress.”
“Dan Feehan is the type of candidate that we are excited about at NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota,” said Maggie Meyer, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota. “He understands that our freedoms must include reproductive freedom and that when politicians pit us against each other, it betrays our Minnesota values. We’re proud to support his campaign, and eager to see the First Congressional District lead by someone who represents our values once again.”
“Personal healthcare decisions should be left up to an individual and their doctor — not politicians,” said Dan Feehan. “In Congress, I will be a staunch ally in the fight to grant women of all backgrounds equal access to quality care, family planning services and unbiased medical information. We must also champion policies for paid parental leave and insist on protections from pregnancy discrimination in the workplace.”
Feehan also ran to represent Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District in 2018 and lost by just 1,315 votes to anti-choice Rep. Jim Hagedorn.
