Gina Ortiz Jones won yesterday’s Democratic primary in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District, advancing to the general election. Ortiz Jones lost in this district by just 926 votes (.4%) in 2018 and is running as a champion for reproductive freedom and equal rights for all, as well as to be the first openly LGBTQ member of Congress from Texas and first female Iraq War veteran to serve in Congress from Texas. In response to her victory in the primary, Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, released the following statement:

“NARAL Pro-Choice America members congratulate Gina Ortiz Jones on her win in the Democratic primary in Texas’ 23rd congressional district. Gina is a passionate fighter for justice, equality, and freedom, who will never stop advocating for women and families in Congress. As a native Texan, I know how much is at stake for our right to access abortion in Texas and across the country. Anti-choice politicians hell-bent on interfering in our personal decisions have called the shots for too long. I am proud that NARAL is backing Gina in this critical race and can’t wait to see her elected.”
