Candidate for Nevada’s Second Congressional District Earns Endorsement from Nation’s Leading Pro-Choice Advocacy Group

NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Patricia Ackerman in her campaign to be elected U.S. Representative for Nevada’s Second Congressional District. Ackerman is seeking to flip the seat currently held by anti-choice, anti-freedom Republican incumbent Representative Mark Amodei.

“NARAL is proud to endorse Patricia Ackerman, who will be a fierce advocate for reproductive freedom in Congress,” said NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue. “The stakes for reproductive freedom are higher than ever, and flipping this seat will be critical for holding and expanding a majority in the House of Representatives that will reflect the 77% of Americans who support the right to abortion.”

“NARAL and our 44,000 members in Nevada are thrilled to throw our full support behind Patricia Ackerman in her campaign to unseat Rep. Amodei,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada Director Caroline Mello Roberson. “Patricia is a passionate community leader and advocate who can be trusted to stand up for the overwhelming majority of Nevadans who support reproductive freedom. As a devoted member of NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada, we have seen firsthand her tireless commitment to safeguarding and expanding abortion access. Unlike Rep. Amodei, Patricia will fight to ensure that Silver State values of freedom, dignity, and compassion are truly represented in Congress.”

“This upcoming election is about something more than just politics. Our fundamental right to exercise full autonomy over our own bodies is at stake,” said Patricia Ackerman. “NARAL Pro-Choice America and its 2.5 million members are leaders in the fight to safeguard reproductive freedom for future generations. I am honored to have their endorsement. This is our chance to bring another pro-choice voice into Nevada’s Congressional delegation.”

Patricia Ackerman is a community advocate, activist, and retired high altitude mountaineer. She has led volunteer and organizing efforts across Northern Nevada to support the work of various advocacy organizations, including NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada. She is one of the founding members of the NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada chapter and has been a vital voice in Carson City pushing for reproductive freedom. Her activism has included testifying at public hearings, organizing rallies, and countless hours spent canvassing and phone banking.

Ackerman’s opponent, Republican incumbent Rep. Mark Amodei, is an anti-choice, anti-freedom conservative who has earned a 0% score in NARAL’s Congressional Record on Choice. As Congressman he has voted to ban and criminalize abortion, to defund Planned Parenthood and repeal the Affordable Care Act, and to rescind Title X protections, which help support family planning and reproductive health services for low-income North Carolinians.
